Myanmar Cyclone, Chilean Volcano Erupts, Palfrey Suicide, Food Shortages, Oil Price Rises

Last week I included in the Astro-Success column Saturn’s station, where it returns to normal forward motion after a period of months being retrograde.  These are almost always powerful times in the earth, for many and for few.  Last week’s astrology was no exception to this rule.

Actually there were two momentous astrological events: the station of Saturn on Friday, May 2 and the conjunction of Neptune and the Moon’s North Node (called Rahu in Vedic astrology) on Sunday, May 4.  These are malefic (evil) planets and they have the potential to leave chaos in their wake.  Within the span of a couple days as these planets peaked astrologically there were a few world-momentous events….

Within the span of a couple days as these planets peaked astrologically there were a few world-momentous events:

Friday, May 2
Myanmar Cyclone

Cyclone Nargis made landfall in Myanmar (Burma) with 100+ winds causing catastrophic loss of life (as of this writing upwards of 22,000 and maybe twice more missing), leaving hundreds of thousands homeless, as well as massive destruction of the country’s infrastructure.  Rice supplies are said to sufficient only for five days, aid is rushing in from international sources.

Saturn's Carnage

You might recall that Myanmar’s government is the oppressive regime that last September was involved in the brutal repression of peaceful Buddhist monks and democracy supporters.  It seems Myanmar and their people can’t get a decent break these days.

Chilean Volcano Erupts

After 9000 years of inactivity Chile’s Chaiten volcano erupted spewing ash 12 miles into the sky and causing a plume to stretch from Patagonia to the Atlantic.  One photo here shows the unique volcanic lightning, supposedly from static electricity discharged as heated ash, ice and rock collide.  The nearby town of Chaiten was evacuated.

Alleged Suicide of Deborah Jean Palfrey

The “D. C. Madame” was found dead of an apparent suicide at her mother’s home in a storage shed.  According to a note found, she was despondent at the prospect of facing 5-6 years in prison and leaving penniless.  This would seem to be in contradiction to recent statements made by her that she would never commit suicide, and some people have gone so far as to say that this was a murder covered up as a suicide.  Ms. Palfrey had a long list of clients to her escort service, including some very highly placed US officials.  Since she was about to write a tell-all book it would be natural to assume that some of those officials (who would be very unscrupulous) would not want that info release.  Therefore, she was “whacked”—hypothetically.

Saturn's Carnage

This certainly was a dark day for Deborah Jean Palfrey, whether she was whacked or she actually became depressed enough to commit suicide.  This actually occurred on Thursday, May 1; only one day before Saturn fully stationed.  Actually on that day Venus came to a complete trine to both Saturn and Pluto, two heavy duty malefics; and there seemed to be no love felt that day.

Food Shortages, Rising Price of Oil

It is right about this now that an emerging situation is starting occupy the world news-consciousness: that of basic shortages of essential commodities.  Increasingly now we are seeing mainstream news stories about a global food crunch, which will affect availability and price.  With the price of a barrel of oil currently at $120, the price of a gallon of gas doesn’t seem to be going down anytime soon.

On the contrary, another commodity seems to be flourishing: the US dollar, more and more dollars are minted out of thin air daily by the Federal Reserve Bank on the order of 2-3 billion a day; therefore this cheapens on a daily basis every dollar we hold in our hands, wallets, bank accounts, stock, bonds, etc.  To compensate therefore for higher commodity prices, the US fed/gov/bank most certainly be churning out more dollars at a higher velocity; deepening the downward spiral.  No doubt the end result will be the literal death of the US dollar, replaced by a US version of the European Euro, the Amero.

Saturn is a planet of restriction and limitation, forcing us to get by with less.  The cosmic purpose is to fire our economy, practicality, and sense of realism.  It causes pain, and pain is the flame of life burning through its impurities.

Saturn (along with some help from Neptune) can be a very dramatic, awesome, and poignantly powerful planet; some of the imagery here may help to you understand it better.  At any rate, the people of Myanmar, Chile, and Deborah Jean Palfrey’s soul have been touched by Saturn.
