Venus, A Brilliant Shining Mirror Turns Retrograde
by Curtis Burns,

birthofvenus.jpgThis week on Friday, March 6, 2009; Venus turns retrograde and will remain in that condition for the following 43 days.  Venus is possibly the most beautiful star in the night sky, and its influences are in the main benefic (beneficial).

If you look up in the night sky, all of the benefic planets (Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon) give off a brilliant, piercing, pearly radiance that is very warming to the heart, and never stop to be a pleasure to look at.  Of course, it is merely the reflected light of the Sun striking our retinas, and the Sun is the source of all light and heat in this solar system (as we understand it to be.)

Representing the center of spiritual power, the Sun contains the Allness of Everything; but by virtue of their specialization/differentiation the planets reflect back certain qualities of that Allness of the Sun and amplify them for our consciousness/assimilation.

Venus Retrograde, March 6, 2009

This week on Friday, March 6, 2009; Venus turns retrograde and will remain in that condition for the following 43 days.  Venus is possibly the most beautiful star in the night sky, and its influences are in the main benefic (beneficial).  venus.jpg

As any physicist would tell you, we see a strawberry as red because the substance of it reflects back light of a certain band of the electromagnetic spectrum, which we call red.  Reflecting back means that the substance mirrors something of the original source; not quite the quality of the source, but as close as possible.  The degree of the perfectionment of the reflection depends on the actual purity of the reflecting substance itself.

Venus represents love, beauty, and that which draws us together; it mirrors back and amplifies these qualities of the Sun (which represents Divine Perfection).  When Venus casts a ray (an aspect), moves into a certain zone of the zodiac, or sits permanently in some area of a person’s chart; it funnels, focuses, and manifests the aspects of the Creator, which are of love, beauty, and refinement.

When Venus turns retrograde (backward), issues of love would seem to go awry, funny, or slightly strange to our understanding.  But maybe this is the Universe’s way of communicating to us that the “bad thing” is really in our perception of it only.  Venus is not really turning backwards in the sky, it is an illusion of perspective brought about the differences in the positions of the Earth and Venus as they revolve around the Sun (there’s that old Sun again).

birthofvenus.jpgSo, do things really go wrong in our worlds, or is there really a lack of adaptability or flexibility in our minds that is being brought to light?  To me retrogrades are a minor event, not really carrying any weight to bring about observable effect in the mundane world; with the exception of the actual days that they turn retrograde and then resume direct motion again.  In natal charts however they are significant because they coincide with energies or patterns that are slightly awry, weakened, or afflicted.

This means therefore that you would not want ideally to “lock in” retrograde energy into a chart of an event that you were consciously bringing about; such as a major business deal, a marriage, or inaugurating some new endeavor.  Some things however you can’t avoid, like a retrograde planet in the mix and you have to embrace what they mean on a deeper level: calling upon us to make some new adjustment in consciousness, take a leap upward in perspective, and allow a more intuitive, internal process to occur within us.

(I will say though that it is simply easier to call those paradigm-challenging situations as “evil” and avoid them like the plague, and so many times that is exactly what we do.)

Relationship matters therefore could take some unusual twists and turns; and you may find yourself hard-pressed to understand what “love” as a concept means for you at this particular time; and you may feel subtle irritations and resistances to the course of love for this forty-three day period.  However, isn’t that that what the journey of human love is every day?  Possibly it will be a little more apparent during this time, especially so at the start and the end.

Expect also developments in the worlds of art and culture, from the high brow to the low; but sometimes Venus surprises us with completely unexpected associations.  I would say that Venus’ rulership of Taurus could possibly bring about some developments in the world of valuation, money, and other material matters.  Everybody would agree though that financial matters are undergoing radical change right now.  We are entering a time of accelerated societal changes punctuated by astrological events such as Venus retrograding but also bigger changes symbolized by the slower moving outer planets as well; which will be covered in this website shortly.

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
