May 2018: Bright Jupiter
by Curtis Burns,

Mid-level astrological events move us along for this month.  Key landmarks of May 2018 may occur on the following peak dates:

  • Monday, May 7, Mercury sqr Pluto, Venus sqr Neptune, Venus biquintile Pluto
  • May 8, Jupiter opposition
  • Monday, May 14, Sun sesquiquadrate Saturn, Mars quintile Jupiter, Mercury semisquare Neptune, Venus biquintile Jupiter
  • Wednesday, May 16, Venus at Perihelion
  • Saturday, May 19, Sun quintile Neptune, Mars semisquare Neptune
  • Wednesday, May 23, Mercury opp Jupiter, Sun biquintile Saturn, Sun trine Mars
  • Saturday, May 26, Venus opposite Saturn, Mercury sesquiquadrate Saturn
  • Sunday, May 27, Sun sesquiquadrate Pluto
  • Tuesday, May 29, Sun quincunx Saturn, Mercury quintile Neptune

The number one high point may be May 8th’s Jupiter opposition.  That is, this is when the Sun and Jupiter are at exact opposition, from the perspective of the Earth; which is like a “full Jupiter”, much like when the Sun opposite the Moon is a “full moon”.  This means that Jupiter receives maximum illumination from the Sun in our skies, highest and literally brightest in the night sky.

Everybody should want a bright and prominent Jupiter; it signals enlightenment for society and a view of life that is better than just a cynical, materialistic “battle royale” for survival, where there are laws and standards based on morality, spirituality, and the higher potential of humanity, etc.

If I were to characterize the philosophies that drive places like Wall Street and corporate America, the military and government with its current policies and aims, it is the former of the aforementioned two above.

A few major transits involving Saturn, Neptune and Pluto this month, may be more karmic payback points for all, but hopefully with great transformative lessons implicit in them.  Karma is neither good or bad, it is merely the consequences of actions which return to us in kind, the idea there I would postulate is that some actions are better than others.

Day by day:

Tuesday, May 1
Relationships struggle to rise above pettiness and selfishness, moving towards purpose and commitment.  (Venus sesquiquadrate Mars, Venus quincunx Saturn)

Wednesday, May 2
Pointed intention won’t necessarily be appreciated by all.  (Sun tridecile Mars)

Thursday, May 3
No peaking influences

Friday, May 4
Intense emotional effects in relationships may reveal lesser motives therein.  (Juno quintile Pluto)

Saturday, May 5, Cinco de Mayo, Eta-Aquarid Meteor Shower
Hyperbole drives interactions; keep a steady middle course through it all, neither promising or expecting much.  (Mercury quincunx Jupiter, Juno sesquiquadrate Jupiter)

Sunday, May 6
Exciting life developments may seem to open new opportunities, but all will be real in the doing, not the thinking or feeling thereof.  (Sun sextile Neptune, Venus semisquare Uranus)

Monday, May 7
Dysfunctional idiosyncrasies may fascinate but be careful buying into extremely toxic relationship situations.  Learn to be able to simply let go of a situation, which can cause us to fume and ruminate about people and/or situations.  (Mercury square Pluto, Venus square Neptune, Venus biquintile Pluto)

Tuesday, May 8, Jupiter at Opposition, Last Quarter Moon
Jupiter today is at it’s brightest and highest in the sky, receiving the full illumination of the Sun.  Thinking and acting big may unlock success and happiness for yourself and others; discussions, creativity, and spirituality are favored.  Charming connections may flower into beautiful relationships.  (Sun opposite Jupiter, Venus quintile Juno)

Wednesday, May 9
Good vibes carry over from yesterday, uplifting relationships and emotionality overall.  Be careful squandering beauty, love, and good fortune on lesser things.  (Venus quincunx Jupiter)

Thursday, May 10
No peaking influences

Friday, May 11
You may find greatness in mediocrity today, finding treasures that others in their insensitivity may pass by.  Relationships move through fascinating, unusual, and beguiling spaces.  (Mercury tridecile Saturn, Sun trine Pluto, Venus quincunx Pluto)

Saturday, May 12
Urgency, panic or hysteria may characterize some moments; but strive to keep a cool head, finding your decisive leadership.  Power and control may be issues in relationships today.  (Mercury square Mars, Sun semisquare Juno)

Sunday, May 13, Mother’s Day
Situations and events may help open up new ways of thinking and acting.   Genius is indicated.  Love and passion help motivate life.  (Mercury conjunct Uranus, Venus biquintile Mars)

Monday, May 14
A lot of seemingly conflicting influences may create a sense of immobility, breaking through however could complete turn around that “stuck” feeling.  Emotions and beliefs called up will fuel the process.  Might be a good day to take up new predispositions!  (Sun sesquiquadrate Saturn, Mars quintile Jupiter, Mercury semisquare Neptune, Venus biquintile Jupiter)

Tuesday, May 15, New Moon
Relationships need to work through problems maturely today, no demonization of the other, and willingness to accept responsibility/blame for the way things are.  Some will work and move on higher, others not.  (Juno square Saturn)

Wednesday, May 16, Venus at Perihelion
Venus is closest to the Sun today in its 225-day year.  Mars and Uranus in square amps volatility.  Strive to keep a calm head.  An afflicted Mars may think (and panic in doing so) that it’s powerless in a certain situation, compensating for that feeling by over-aggression.  You can’t correct ten years of inaction with one moment of tremendous initiative, take it slow, realize that you’re starting on your journey of self-empowerment and it will take some time.

Thursday, May 17, Moon at Perigee
The Moon is closest to Earth today in its one-month orbit.  You might feel slighter more sensitive and empowered to living life.  Otherwise, no peaking influences.

Friday, May 18
A calm, methodical approach to research or deeply focused work may yield amazing results.  (Mercury trine Saturn, Mercury tridecile Pluto)

Saturday, May 19
The Sun and Mars aspecting Neptune today may product unusual and subtle developments but be careful of ethical grey areas giving you “permission” to act in certain ways.  The devil is in the details.  In fact, energy and motivation may seem entirely withdrawn, giving rise to chronic health issues, and possibly resorting to addictive solutions.  While in other areas relationships may spark in unusual and/or exciting ways.  (Sun quintile Neptune, Mars semisquare Neptune, Venus sextile Uranus)

Sunday, May 20
Exciting relationship developments are indicated, possibly pulling life a rajasic direction; i.e. more horizontal instead of upward-vertical.  (Juno biquintile Jupiter, Venus quincunx Mars, Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter)

Monday, May 21
No peaking influences

Tuesday, May 22, First Quarter Moon
Perception and the experience of beauty, love, and the wonder of it all are enhanced.  Some days it is easier to lift the whole of life, just by the power of thought.  (Mercury sextile Neptune, Venus tridecile Neptune)

Wednesday, May 23
Motivation and many discussions and exchange of ideas may help out in situations of crisis, difficulty, or frustration.  (Mercury opposite Jupiter, Sun biquintile Saturn, Sun trine Mars)

Thursday, May 24
No peaking influences

Friday, May 25
Bold initiatives may deliver effective impacts.  Hope grows.  (Mercury tridecile Mars, Mercury trine Pluto, Jupiter trine Neptune)

Saturday, May 26
Love has to work through issues, resentments and bitterness. Forgiveness is the first step, and then willingness to discuss, overcoming barriers to communication.  (Venus opposite Saturn, Mercury sesquiquadrate Saturn, Mercury semisquare Venus)

Sunday, May 27
Some things end, if only for the new to take their place.  Obsessive, compulsive and other pathological tendencies are touched off; choose and act wisely.  (Sun sesquiquadrate Pluto)

Monday, May 28, Memorial Day
No peaking influences

Tuesday, May 29, Full Moon
Don’t get upset, get determined to proactively and responsibly end sources of frustration in your life.  See the higher side of things.  Communication in relationships is crucial.  (Sun quincunx Saturn, Mercury quintile Neptune, Mercury semisquare Juno)

Wednesday, May 30
Focus, scrutiny and analysis help you to get more real.  Unusual and intriguing relationship developments are indicated.  (Mercury biquintile Saturn, Venus quintile Uranus)

Thursday, May 31
Relationships promise great things, the fulfilment thereof yet to be seen.  (Juno quincunx Jupiter)

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
