Saturn Square Pluto: Finding Perfect Equipoise
by Curtis Burns,

Astrology for the Week of November 9, 2009: Saturn Square Pluto

Saturn Square Pluto November 2009This week we are experiencing the first leg of a series of configurations which I identified in the ebook Mounting Challenges 2009-11, as potentially earth-shaking in their import over the next few years.  This is the square of Saturn and Pluto, which occurs on Sunday, November 15, 2009.

Every six or so years Saturn and Pluto form a hard (difficult) aspect to each other; these are two heavy-duty so-called “bad” planets setting each other off.  “Bad” of course is a very inappropriate and wrong-minded view of what Saturn and Pluto mean to us.  These are two major astrological agents which move humanity along the evolutionary path.

There is a poem by Friedrich Von Logau based on the words of Greek philosopher Sextus Empiricus:

Though the mills of God grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small;
Though with patience he stands waiting, with exactness grinds he all.

It is easy to see the planets and their orbital paths as mill-wheels indeed, and Saturn and Pluto move exceedingly slow.  Saturn takes 29 years to make one orbit around the Sun; with Pluto it is 248 years (eight times slower).

When planets come into a square, you could see them as perpendicular to each other like the right angles that form the corner of a building, or the parts of a chair or table that keep it together and able to withstand for years the stresses of use.

As these two planets play off each other there is a strong surge of energy which has the effect of flushing out their imperfect reflections in our psyches; things get hairy initially.  However as time goes on the process is set in motion of adjustment, refinement, or completely re-working our paradigms for living.  This is change, this is life.

Planets in OrbitLike a planet in orbit around a star (or the electron orbiting around the atomic nucleus) the body stays serenely in its course because it finds the absolute balance point between the energies of attraction and repulsion; that is, the centripetal force of gravitation drawing it in, and centrifugal force of its motion that tends to want to shoot it out into space.

One way or another, the experience of the radically different planetary bodies astrologically will find that equipoise that produces constructive action in our affairs.  Nevertheless, spiritual evolution like this is a conscious-participatory process and as they say, if at first you don’t succeed….try, try, try again.

As Saturn squares Pluto, determined will-power and psychological intensity seek to find a perfect dynamic balance with each other; it doesn’t happen over night and it may involve some initial stress in the process.

Saturn imposes limits and Pluto tends to bring out obsessive behaviors.  You could imagine all sorts of permutations on this theme as humanity attempts to incorporate these seeming at odds qualities: obsessive needs to control thwarted, intensifications of the feeling of deprivation (joblessness, etc,), or extreme depths of psychological reactions to life events which produce transformations in consciousness.

Saturn many times also produces a black cloud of pessimism to affairs and Pluto has the effect of intensifying the emotional impact of things.  I wouldn’t be too surprised if emotions go off the deep end temporarily and people might be tempted to say or do things of an inappropriate nature.  Take heart, it’s not that bad; the planets are creating the effect of making things seem worse than they really are.

This Saturn square Pluto configuration will be touched off by other planets all through 2010, so this could be the official first leg of what was described in entirety in Mounting Challenges 2009-11, including further economic declines, strong governmental actions, and any sort of “planetary crisis” whether it be socially, economically, or environmentally in the next 12-18 months or longer.

You might connect this astrology to the recent passing of the health care bill in the US House of Representatives, while it purports to give everyone health care, it seems rather to mandate by force of law and penalty of fine that everyone must purchase health insurance, with actually limited public options; it’s still heavily dominated by the health insurance industry, which seems to be becoming a cartel.

The recent Fort Hood shooting might be attributed to Saturn and Pluto with the shock and severity of the event, but actually this has connotations of Neptunian deception as well, which I hope to cover in another article or video soon.

Next week I will be covering the transit of the Nodes now moving into Gemini/Sagittarius axis, this will be an event decidedly more positive.

Day by Day:

Mon, Nov 9
No peaking influences

Tues, Nov 10
Behaviors might be a little off the charts, and almost anything may seem possible to anyone with the audacity.  But a lot of big words and promises can soon be forgotten.  Ideological, spiritual and philosophical issues will influence events.  (Sun square Jupiter)

Wed, Nov 11
Be careful of facts and figures; our memory and perceptions may be overly influenced by what we want to see than what is really there.  Intellectual gullibility may be strong en masse. (Mercury square Neptune)

Thurs, Nov 12
Beware of self-deception in love today, people who seem radiantly beautiful but in the end disappoint.  (Venus tridecile Neptune)

Fri, Nov 13
Significant developments in relationships may occur.  (Venus sesquiquadrate Juno)

Sat, Nov 14
Early on there could be significant developments in relationships.  You may feel uniquely inclined to pursue you individual proclivities.  (Sun trine Juno and Uranus, Venus sesquiquadrate Uranus)

Sun, Nov 15
It could have been a difficult last couple of day, but today that influence peaks; it could feel unbearable in way, but remember that personal transformation is on the fast track right now. Keep on keeping on.  Vitality and resistance to substances of disease may be at a low point, people could act deceitfully or deceptively.  (Saturn square Pluto, Sun square Neptune)

Mon, Nov 16
There may be harsh or strongly critical influence in the air today; there could be moments of alarm or hysteria.  However in some instances a calm state of mind may prevail, enabling order in an otherwise chaotic situation.  (Mercury tridecile Mars, Mercury sextile Saturn)

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
