Opportunity Comes Dressed as Difficulty
by Curtis Burns,

Astrology for the Week of January 10, 2010; the Haiti Earthquake

The “worst” days will be Tuesday and Wednesday, January 12 and 13, with the Sun making a tridecile (108 degrees) to Saturn and then the following day Saturn itself turning retrograde: delays, problems, and other obstacles may acutely present themselves to your life.  Saturn has the tendency to bring out the “worst” in us; our crabbiness, pessimism, and tendency to demonize someone or something that we choose to believe is attacking us.

Thomas Edison - Opportunity Comes Dressed in OverallsThe big lie of course is that life has something out for us; when in fact Life has something extremely good out for us.  Thomas Edison once said: “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”  Paraphrasing, opportunity is missed by most because it comes dressed as an obstacle.

In fact this page has a whole bunch of great Thomas Edison quotes.  I could cite more than a few obstacles to SWN that if I let them defeat me, the site would have never made it to anyone’s computer screen.  Those were painful moments, but out of those moments were born new understandings, skills, and creative victories.  It’s all how you look at it and are determined to press on with your stated objectives.

You’ll be happy to know that Mercury turns direct on Friday, January 15, 2010, which is a positive element in business dealings.  As an example just today in putting out this artile I found out that my software wasn’t fully configured and I missed out on Saturn’s retrograde.  I had to quickly scramble to rectify the matter, but I am very close to getting things smoothly running again.

There will be an eclipse of the Sun on Friday, January 15, 2010 as well.  This is day when the Sun is diminished in appearance for a little while from our lives.  Eclipses produces strange or unusual effects on our psyche, but it is like new energy flooding in which temporarily disorients us but the adjustments in our lives come about very soon.

You may have noticed last week that I’ve been adding additional information to the weekly predictions pages.  I’m adding relevant results info for each day, showing how the actual configurations played out. Hopefully this will add a new level of realism to the site, and help everybody to get a better understanding of how things really work astrologically.

I’ve also been a bit short with my articles lately, which is because I’ve been in the middle of an entire business-personal reorganization.  I’m also doing a comprehensive site marketing revamp, which should improve the overall exposure of SWN and you can expect more content coming out on a regular basis very soon.

There are actually no configurations becoming exact the whole weekend of Jan 16-17, which made my job a little easier this week.  People will be having personal cycles however, meaning things will be happening for some people nevertheless.

Astrology of the Haiti Earthquake

An earthquake is not necessarily the result of a Saturn station, however the resulting shock, pain, and suffering that an earthquake brings can be a direct manifestation of Saturn in our lives.  This is an extreme instance of course because outer planets make stations several times a year and catastrophes like don’t happen every time.  It is heartbreaking to see how the third world continually seems to take it on the chin with disasters like this, but hopefully we can see how this indeed can be a liberating event for the people of Haiti.

The world is now “forced” to address the people of Haiti, and perhaps issues and structrues (literal and figurative) in the society of Haiti will now be given the opportunity to be addressed and hopefully changed for the better.  I won’t be overly optimistic here because rebuilding in the third world can take a long time, but this is how Saturn works, thrusting us into a crisis to expedite personal/societal growth.  It would be premature to say much more about this developing situation, but we can keep our eyes and prayers on the nation of Haiti.

Be sure to come back to SWN for more info and the astrology behind breaking news….

Relationships may take a hit or two, of course being able to take a few hits and get right back up and carry on is a key success quality especially in the context of getting along.  Problems and obstacles might acutely try to darken your day, and they may indeed seem greater than they really are.  Choosing to see every situation (as unpleasant as it may seem) as an opportunity to learn adjustment skills and to correct bad emotional habits, may make this day a profitable one.  (Sun and Venus tridecile Saturn)

Yesterday and today may seem rather oppressive, a feeling corroborated by developments right now.  It is important to keep your held held high, focused on your goals and to persevere through what may seem like the worst of conditions.  Being in a danger (war) zone could be very hazardous.  Unusual, exciting, and possibly short-lived experiences may come about with others.  You may be introduced to new life directions.  (Saturn stationary retrograde, Sun and Venus sextile Uranus)

  • Goldman Sachs bank executives face tough congressional panel admitting wrong-doing. Read news story

Thurs, Jan 14
Relationships and the desire to connect with others may be subject to illusory influences; relationships may be seen as a (fatally flawed) means of escapism while seeming to be tremendously uplifting.  Codependency issues may arise; others may find sublime inspiration from connections (Juno semisquare Neptune)

Friday, Jan 15 (Mercury stationary direct, solar eclipse)
Mercury turns direct, which is traditionally positive for communications and business.  Intellectual, verbal, and analytical matters will be enhanced and emphasized.  You may experience a rapid pace to today’s developments.  With the eclipse of the Sun also occuring today, disorientation may still occur and the normal course of events could go somewhat awry.  (Mercury stationary direct)

  • US Dow Jones falls 100 points.

Saturday – Sunday, Jan 16-17
No peaking influences

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
