Gibran On Love
by Curtis Burns,

Valentine’s Day Astrology and for February 14 – 20, 2012

the prophet

Since Valentine’s Day is here and there are a number of relationship astrology themes playing out this week, I thought I would quote “On Love” from Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, as well as highlight the astrological issues of each day.

Gibran obviously speaks of the deeper spiritual side of love, not necessarily the lighter side of courtship. Yet behind the seeming frivolity of dating and romance, underneath it all is a powerful spiritual action taking place, some of which never comes to the surface, is aborted, or never is given a chance.  Some of the imagery of the piece may seem out of place for the subject of love, to me however the image of a powerful angel overshadowing one or two is clear enough.  Fierce, and not for the faint of heart….love, that is.

Then said Almitra, “Speak to us of Love.”

And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said: When love beckons to you, follow him, Though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you believe in him, Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth. Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself. He threshes you to make you naked. He sifts you to free you from your husks. He grinds you to whiteness. He kneads you until you are pliant; And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God’s sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor, Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.

Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. Love possesses not nor would it be possessed; For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.” And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires: To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own understanding of love; And to bleed willingly and joyfully. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy; To return home at eventide with gratitude; And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

Tuesday, Feb 14, Valentine’s Day
On this day devoted to love, our thoughts, actions, and feelings may be motivated by spiritual themes, threatening to soar to the stars.  Yes, it could happen, if we don’t forget the moments that may be possible today; not letting “common sense” destroy our dreams.  But remember also it is easy to see those highest hopes and desires merely reflected on others (since we are all mirrors to each other), with some subtle narcissistic nod to our egos, and ultimately coming to disappointment.  (Mercury conjunct Neptune)

Wednesday, Feb 15
Ardent desires and deep emotional resonance may characterize the day, but be careful about getting carried away with people and/or situations that are ill-thought-out or have more sinister agendas attached to them.  (Venus square Pluto, Mercury square Juno, Mars sesquiquadrate Jupiter)

Thursday, Feb 16
Discussions, intellectual, analytical or persuasive activities are favored; be careful about seeing too much or stretching expectations a little beyond the ability to deliver on.  Creativity and spirituality are favored to.  (Mercury sextile Jupiter)

Friday, Feb 17
Relationship situations and group activities are favored, good feelings may abound.  (Venus trine Node)

Saturday, Feb 18
A measured, steady progress is favored today; people should be of calmer and problem-solving mind, less apt to jump to an extreme position or state of mind.  Penetrative and analytical depth of mind can help to make significant gains in all affairs.  (Sun trine Saturn, Mercury sextile Pluto)

Sunday, Feb 19
Vitality, energy, and immune systems in general may be most vulnerable.  Deceitful, self-defeating, and even addictive behaviors may be touched off.  On the other hand, great creative and spiritual efforts will be favored; as well as connecting with and acting with others more altruistically.  Egos may be less of an issue.  There may be issues of crossed signals, miscommunications, and possibly incidents of over-frivolity or glib neglect.  (Sun conjunct Neptune, Mercury square Nodes)

Monday, Feb 20
No peaking influences

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
