Eclipses, Mercury Stationary Direct, and Saturn Opposing Uranus: Astrology This Week, January 25, 2009.

Quite a lot is happening in the heavens this week and next.  Imagine, if you will, a bubbling caldron of spiritual/material soup; the heat is being turned up by the friction of stressfully aspecting planets.  What comesAstrology this Week out ultimately depends on how everyone participates in this boiling medium; careening back and forth, bouncing off one another just like so many molecules in a test tube over a flame.

Eclipses are when the Sun and Moon are in a closer than usual relationship to each other and one literally blocks out the other during a lunation.  This is a powerful sysygy (three points coming into a line) of planets, setting up powerful magnetic and gravitational fields, which affect us in subtle ways as well as unsubtle.  Things seem to go awry during eclipses, but I prefer to think of eclipses spiritually to a software update process: the CPU is temporarily bogged down by the download process and normal affairs get "hung up".

Astrology this weekThere is a solar eclipse on Monday, January 26 , Jupiter makes major aspects to both Saturn and Uranus this week, and Mercury turns direct on Sunday, February 1, 2009.  On Thursday, February 5, 2009, Saturn and Uranus will oppose each other.  If Saturn and Uranus in opposition depict tension and the resulting change hammered out in the process, Jupiter’s influence upon them will be to lighten, give hope to, and to add bravado to the process.

So while the new US President is getting out the gate with his first 100 days (sort of a traditional open road for administrations) a lot of hype might be following the process.  Let’s keep in mind the magician’s trick though: distract the audience with something shiny in one hand while they do something covertly with the other.

Then on Sunday, February 1, 2009 Mercury turns stationary direct; after 3 weeks of backwards (retrograde) motion, it resumes “normal” forward motion.  Astrologically this portends less problem-afflicted communications and transactions. Certainly on Sunday, Feb 1 there should be found a bright, effervescent, and alert quality to the day as it kicks back into direct motion.

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
