The Buffeting Winds of Change
by Curtis Burns,

Week of Oct 15 to 22, 2007

The Winds of Change

It is difficult to say exactly when, but I am of the assurance that that this week and next will be pivotal to a significant degree for many people.  As usual behind every cloud is the silvery lining of something great happening.  What we see and not understand usually we fear greatly.  Change is certainly one of the most dreaded and to-be-avoided events in the human sphere.

If the whole universe is racing at the speed of light towards some great collective destination, it is the human part of us that is most happy staying right where it is, lying down, and taking a nap for a while.  The human ego is of course a vapor, an illusion; a vague assemblage of thoughts, ideas, and energies with some sort of unifying center.  Around itself this human ego creates a little universe with it at the center.

Winds of Change

It feels rather in competition with the greater, organic whole that it finds itself within; struggling, as it were, for domination and supremacy.  And when the greater winds of change blow down the valley of human existance, buffeting and pushing about the little emergent centers of intelligence; there is a choice that the little ego has: it can resist, cry out, and refuse to give in to the seemingly chaotic and very unkind winds of change, or it can realize that there is a greater purpose in the scheme of the universe and it can "put that wind at it's back" to get to a better place.

In a zero-sum universe, where everything is in perfect equilibrium much like an algebraic equation; those wind-gust buffets would be viewed as originating in the initial actions of the receiver itself; i.e., the winds are merely his karma. I do think that the universe is a masterpiece of mathematical perfection, but it is somewhat more higher-dimensional in its action, not to mention spiritual.

The wind-gusts are like a great breath full of living energy seeking to infuse all in its path with fiery spirit and seeking to move things like it moves itself.   It impells, but it is of the nature of Divine Love, ecstatic living awareness of each living being and prodding all to the ultimate destiny.  If there is a little bit of karma on the return kurrent (pun intended) all the more to to katapult the soul to its marriage to the living spirit and eternal life.  Eternal life is eternal action, like the pulse of the universe.

Spiritual Initiation

So change is in the winds.  I can tell because Saturn, the planet representing the foundations of the ego, which is an emergent godhood (the ego is not all bad, it becomes transformed into the divine individualized ego in the ascension) now comes into conjunction with Ketu, the Moon's South Node which repesents the most spiritually initiatic point in the horoscope.

Saturn conjunct Ketu in sidereal Leo, Mid Oct. 2007

Spiritual initiation can be many things to many people, but to me it is the moderated, calculated influx of energy into the world of a spiritual disciple by the master which is intended to raise him up to the next level.  From one perspective (higher) it is a transfer of light, from another (the lower, from the human) it is seen as an increase of spiritual responsibility and a great need to separate oneself out from heretofore acceptable limiting conditions.  "Get out of your ruts now!" the master commands, the fact that there is a peculiar set of circumstances uniquely conducive to only one solution (spiritual) and which are most painful (to the lesser self if that part of the self is stubbornly held onto); it only adds fuel to your tank to make a move….upward.

So be prepared to view things from multiple levels especially so this week and next.  With an otherwise very precise astrology it will be hard to pin down the exact peaking of this configuration, the Nodes are not real planets but mathematical abstractions with strongly spiritual overtones.  There is the "mean" method of node calculation and then there is the "true" method, both seem to work.  So when it comes to the Nodes I always gloss over the exact dates.  The Nodes are powerful, mysterious, and elusive forces; you can tell a lot from a person's chart just by looking at them.

Falls from Grace, World Developments

Since the South Node and Saturn are meeting in the sidereal sign of Leo, this portends much in the way of power, rule, and the honor of both. As Leo represents authority and reputation also we can see some of the untimely "falls from grace" of notables like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Senator Larry Craig.  OJ Simpson is again in the headlines, fighting for his reputation and freedom from prosecution.  The fateful coming together of malefic stars in this sign of fame and recognition would seem to be a cyclical foundation of this seeming epidemic of celebrity meltdowns.

Talk of an immanent Iraq-like US invasion-attack on Iran seem to be escalating.  War means many things, among them the seizing forcebly of power and control.  The fact that US government elements seemingly on their own crusade for dominance of the Middle East militarily (per the Project for the New American Century documents and others) would seem to be a variant on the "manifest destiny" scenario, which has cut up and reapportioned national boundaries for thousands of years.

As Saturn is also in aspect (with wide orbs) to Uranus in sidereal Aquarius, and Jupiter in a few short week/months will be in conjunction to Pluto; these would indicate that something big is in the works with one peak in mid December 2007.  Saturn and Uranus will exactly oppose in early winter 2008, which would seem to indicate a next major peak in world energy/emotion.  This is not looking at a detailed analysis of the major player nations: US, China, Russia, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc., so there is definitely more to be said on these accounts, which will definitely be presented here at SWN.

Peaks in energy/emotion many times coincide with pivotal events in a person's or nation's life.  As Saturn and Ketu come together it would not be a surprise to see separations and comings together of individuals and groups for serious purposes, even if they be for such serious things as spirituality.  Saturn is the planet of the yogis, representing their discipline and ardor for their passion, which would be God-self-realization.  The planetary tone may be pensive. but as people hold together their anxieties will become points of experience-fired confidence.

Tue, Oct 16
Relationships should be intrigingly pleasant, mutually firing the desire to be closer.  Since relationships seem to walk a tightrope between success and disaster, it is always important to be at poise and nimble, not going completely to one end or the other but maintaining that state of equilibrium.  (Mercury sextile Venus, Venus sextile Mars)

Wed, Oct 17
Slight communicative fervor and urgency in the early morning hours may help you to break out of ingrained habits to be overly reserved and incommunicative.  (Mercury trine Mars)

Thur, Oct 18
Emotions and relationship situations may run surprisingly deep and strong, as to whether this is defacto an indication of the legitimacy of those things is not necessarily so; but certainly a vicarious experience emotionally can help clear the air for a while.  The big blow-up (whether that be positive or not) opens the door for change.  After a while when perspective returns you can see now whether that situation, so passionately felt at the time, was or was not just a tempest in a teapot.  (Venus tridecile Pluto)

Fri, Oct 19
This a day for action and not reflection, waiting around to figure things out may cause trouble to come knocking on the door when you should have gone out to meet it.  Strike the iron while it's hot, they say; things could get hot today and swinging around that hammer might be a dangerous thing.  But if you elect not to strike you only have a cold, hardened piece of metal of use to no one.  Be careful nevertheless of sharp (hot) metal objects, cuts, burns, fires, and human egotistical tantrum.  This also a day to think through contingencies, plan and accomodate for the future.  (Sun tridecile Mars, Mercury sextile Saturn)

More to come….

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
