Saturn Keeps the System Intact
by Curtis Burns,

Astrology Week of May 10, 2010; Info on Jupiter Opposing Saturn this Year

2010 will be a significant year for everyone; I would expect major developments in all areas of your life: personal, career, family, relationships, and spirituality.  I say this because I spent about two months writing the report Mounting Challenges.  In the report I detail how 2010 looks to be a watershed year for astrological configurations; the likes of which we have not seen for a long time.

A part of the grand configuration detailed in my report is the opposition of Jupiter and Saturn, which forms an angular relationship to transiting Pluto.  Jupiter and Saturn in classical astrology terms are the great polar opposites in regard to humanity’s development.  Jupiter represents growth, expansion, culture and spirituality; whereas Saturn represents the work ethic which supports the former.

When Jupiter and Saturn aspect each other, there is a definite feeling of hindered progress and frustration, but also balanced advancement and stability.  Saturn throws cold water on Jupiter’s enthusiasm, so to speak.  However Saturn is just making sure Jupiter’s plans are realistic.

So the feeling of halted or frustrated progress may dog May 2010, peaking on the 22nd of the month; but it is imperative at the same time that no one give up now in their efforts because now is that hour “darkest, just before dawn”.  The contrast between inspired hope and coldest reality can be very stark in periods like this; and the advent of positive breakthroughs are just around the corner.  Hold on, keep on keeping on.

I’m not even talking yet about the addition of Uranus in the mix, which Jupiter is also about to exactly conjunct (early June 2010).  Uranus amplifies the potential for radical shifts in consciousness on a personal and planetary level, and the desire to break free of heretofore limiting conditions.

Limiting conditions in our lives are put there for a good reason; because we can’t safely handle unlimited power and we may hurt others by our misuse of energy.  You wouldn’t give a million dollars to a street person, because they would fritter it away in a short time and the funds could be swindled from them and used for nefarious purposes. The universe puts safeguards in place to keep the whole system intact, as imperfectly as it may seem via Saturn.

Saturn both curbs and gradually strengthens us so we can handle more and more power and responsibility as we go.  So next time a cycle of bad luck happens in your life, ask yourself if it would have really been “good” that the thing you hoped for actually happened.  Many times it turns out not, and you can thank Saturn for sparing you from it.

Mercury turns direct Tuesday, the 10th; supposedly that is the green light to move forward with major business plans.  To a degree I agree with that, but I find that a planet moving backwards for a time does not much more than produce a little more subjectivity in our lives, possibly causing problems due to lack of clarity on matters.  Mercury retrograde for a couple weeks to me seem not nearly as toxic as an aspect of Mercury temporarily to Saturn or Neptune for a day or so.  Nevertheless, the station of Mercury and its subsequent moving forward again can have the effect of kicking things into first gear for a day or two.

For the most part this week is relatively quiet astrologically, with things heating up on Monday, the 17th.

Mon, May 10
The stops may be pulled out with regard to energy, motivation, and application; the envelope may be pushed at all levels.  Some may succeed in something incredible, while others only to have it blow up in their face.  Mental, emotional, and physical breakdowns are possible, as well as mechanical/technological.  Tomorrow Mercury turns direct again.  (Sun sesquiquadrate Pluto, parallel Mars)

Tues, May 11
Mercury direct today.  For some Mercury is a good planet, others don’t experience it so well depending on their particular chart.  Nevertheless a planet kicking back into normal motion will be felt in a tangible way, so today could be a day full of activity.

Wed, May 12
No peaking influences

Thurs, May 13
Today the Sun and Venus shift into new sidereal signs; another shift of circumstances may be experienced today.  (Sun enters sidereal Taurus, Venus enters sidereal Gemini)

Fri, May 14
No peaking influences

Sat, May 15
Themes of competition, passion, and intense activity may surround events happening and people coming together.  (Mars biqunitile North Node)

Sun, May 16
No peaking influences

Mon, May 17
Muliple aspects to Jupiter could make an exciting and colorful day.  Some people may have to overcome their own inhibitions to take part in the energy of the day; but there will also be a strong subtext of unbridled desire about to be ignited.  Pathologies in thought and behavior will be activated, be careful about putting yourself into danger zones of any kind.  Energetic output may be kicked into overdrive.  (Venus square Jupiter, Mercury biquintile Saturn, Sun sextile Jupiter, Mars sesquiquadrate Pluto)

March 2024: A World without Equinoxes or Solstices

In March we come to the Vernal Equinox, when for about a month night and day are of about equal length, hence the word equinox.  There is one day when they are exactly equal and that is the Vernal Equinox, March 20. It is thereafter that one starts to gain dominance, for the Northern Hemisphere it is the day, while in the Southern it is night.  For the Southern their part of the globe actually moves away from the sun, hence the decreased light.
